New Lyde Green Primary School Welcomes First Pupils

Lyde Green Primary School has officially opened its new second site, welcoming its first pupils and marking an exciting new chapter for the growing Lyde Green community.

The new school building on Willowherb Road provides additional space for Lyde Green Primary School, which is part of Pathway Trust, and will enable the school to grow to a two-form entry primary school with capacity for up to 420 pupils.

The opening comes as the local community continues to expand, with significant housing development across Lyde Green and the surrounding area increasing demand for school places.

The new site provides modern, purpose-built facilities designed to support high-quality teaching and learning, giving children an inspiring environment in which to learn, grow and thrive.

“We are delighted and privileged to be able to open such an outstanding facility to add to the Lyde Green Primary School community. The new site at Honeysuckle Road will enable so many more children to access a great education in their local area. We are excited by the educational and wider-community opportunities that having two modern, purpose-built sites provide us with.”

Tom Hutchings, Headteacher

The new site represents an important milestone for Lyde Green Primary School, allowing the school to increase its capacity and provide more children with the opportunity to attend their local school.

The school’s original site opened ten years ago, and the opening of the new building marks a significant moment in its development and the next stage of its growth.

The new school forms part of a wider investment in education provision across the area. The £58.3 million project to deliver both the new primary and secondary schools was funded through a combination of contributions from South Gloucestershire Council, including Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 funding, and the Department for Education’s Free Schools Programme. The schools were constructed by BAM.

Designed with sustainability and the wellbeing of pupils in mind, the buildings have been constructed to meet the Passivhaus Standard, with features including strong insulation, triple-glazed windows, ventilation systems and photovoltaic panels.

The facilities are designed to provide comfortable, healthy learning environments throughout the year while also reducing energy use and carbon emissions.

As part of Pathway Trust, Lyde Green Primary School is now part of a family of 20 primary and secondary schools across South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Somerset, working together with a shared ambition of achieving a great education for every child.

The opening of the new site marks an exciting milestone not only for the school, but for the children, families and wider community of Lyde Green.
