Welcoming Our New ITT Trainees
On 3rd September, we were delighted to welcome our brand-new cohort of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) trainees to Pathway Trust. Fresh-faced and eager to embark on their journey toward qualified teacher status, this year’s group brings a rich mix of backgrounds to our trust community.
Spanning both Primary and Secondary phases, our cohort features recent university graduates alongside career changers, all united by a single purpose: making a transformational difference in the lives of children across our schools.

Setting the Foundations
The first two weeks of the programme focused on grounding our trainees in the realities of the classroom while building a strong, collaborative learning community. Trainees attended school INSET days, completed their initial placement visits, and took part in induction sessions designed to explore what it truly takes to be a brilliant teacher.
Deep-Diving into Behaviour: Intensive Training & Practice (ITAP)
This week, our trainees completed their first Intensive Training & Practice (ITAP) element, focusing on the crucial theme of behaviour management.
Using a structured framework to bridge theory and practice, trainees worked through four key stages:
-
Introduce: Engaging in academic research and group discussions on behaviour principles.
-
Analyse: Observing expert teachers in action across our placement settings.
-
Prepare & Enact: Taking the reins and trying out new techniques in real classroom environments.
-
Assess: Reflecting on their observations and classroom experiences to refine their future practice.
The insights and reflections shared by our trainees at the end of the week demonstrated a deep, thoughtful commitment to applying research-backed strategies in the classroom.
What’s Next?
Over the coming weeks, trainees will delve into the fundamentals of child development and cognitive science, exploring landmark theories such as Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction and analyzing their direct impact on teaching. Alongside these central training modules, they will spend increasing time in our fantastic trust schools and partner settings, continuing to observe expert educators and put theory into practice.
We are incredibly proud of the dedication shown by our new cohort already and look forward to supporting them every step of the way!
